ABOUT

Specialising in monochrome photography I shoot across a range of genre from street, urban and documentary to events, portraits and still life.  Since moving to Venice in 2009, however, capturing fine art vignettes of daily Venetian life in black and white has become the focus of my professional and personal photography.

Although the emphasis is always on the urban and rural landscape of Venice, my style has evolved from being purely documentary to more abstract in nature.   I am fortunate to collaborate with a local gallery space, Kunst Depot Venezia, and recent exhibitions in early 2024 include  'Caigo - Venetian Fog', which displayed a range of fine art prints and associated catalogue.  A music-video project, in collaboration with Venice-based composer Justine Rapaccioli and the vocal, choral group Edesse Ensemble, performing 'Nights in White Satin' was also showcased.   Throughout 2024, selected prints have also been on display at the Laguna Libre Restaurant and Jazz bar in Cannaregio, Venice.

Commercial work includes photo shoots for marketing and media content, covering events, performances and shows and shooting editorial and commercial stock images for Getty Images and Shutterstock, with material published globally through various media outlets including the BBC, The Guardian and the Financial Times.

Personal projects have also been published in print though magazines such as Amateur Photographer magazine and Black and White Photography Magazine in the the UK, where work was also shortlisted for the Black & White Magazine Photographer of the Year 2018.   'Reflected Bell Tower' was also published in 'Dream of Venice in Black and White' by Bella Figure Publications  in September 2018.

My ‘essential kit’ is designed for portability and ease of handling without compromising image quality.  In any working day, I carry a Fujifilm XT5 and one prime (such as 18mm f2, 35mm f2 or 60mm f2.4.) depending on what I am seeking.  I also shoot using the iPhone essentially as a 'scrapbook' to capture anything that grabs my attention.  I may then follow up with the Fujifilm kit if I feel there is a project.  I still also shoot with film, using an Olympus mju II f2.8 compact and often use Pentax-M manual prime lenses mounted on an old Fujifilm XT2 body (with converter ring) which provides a nice blend of analogue/digital media for increased creativity, slowing things down and isolating elements with manual focus.

Based in Mestre, near Venice, prints of my work are available to buy either online or in person, so please get in touch!  Collaborations with other artists and creatives are also welcome, so please contact for more information and details.  Thanks for looking.
